🏖️ Kampos Marathokampou – The Natural Riviera of Southwestern Samos

📍 Location

Kampos Marathokampou is a coastal settlement located on the southwestern edge of Samos, directly below the historic mountain village of Marathokampos, from which it takes its name. Stretching along the Bay of Marathokampos, it is one of the island’s most popular spots for accommodation, tourism, and seaside leisure.

🌊 Natural Landscape & Beach

The area boasts a long stretch of beach, combining sand and pebbles, with both organized and unspoiled sections, and plenty of natural shade from tamarisk trees. The view over the Ikaria Sea, along with the colorful boats and traditional fishing vessels at the small harbor, gives the place a truly Greek island character.

The waters are clean, deep, and refreshing, and the beach of Kampos is ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and watersports like windsurfing and canoeing.

🧭 Features & Infrastructure

Kampos has developed in terms of tourism, but without losing its authentic charm. Here you will find:

  • 🏨 Hotels, studios, and rental rooms

  • 🍽️ Tavernas serving fresh seafood and local dishes

  • 🛶 Watersports facilities

  • 🛍️ Small shops, a bakery, and mini-markets

  • 🚌 Transport connections to Marathokampos, Karlovasi, and Pythagoreio

Despite the tourism, Kampos maintains a quiet, relaxed, and human atmosphere, perfect for families, couples, and nature lovers.

🌳 Nature & Environment

Behind the beach rise the slopes of Mount Kerkis, offering a unique combination of coastal and mountainous scenery. The area features hiking trails, cycling routes, and opportunities for wildlife observation.

The marine biodiversity of the Bay of Marathokampos is rich, with Posidonia meadows, fish, mollusks, and shells, making it an attractive area for snorkeling and diving.

🕰️ History & Tradition

Kampos originally developed as a seaside extension of Marathokampos, serving the needs of local fishermen and traders. In earlier times, it hosted storage buildings, wine presses, and small shipyards, while many families maintained olive groves, vineyards, and citrus orchards in the area.

Even today, many locals from Marathokampos maintain summer homes, fields, or businesses in Kampos.
