Potami Waterfalls – The Natural Wonder of Western Samos
📍 Location
The Potami Waterfalls are located west of Karlovasi, in the lush area of Potami, nestled within a densely wooded gorge. Access begins at Potami Beach and follows a hiking trail through plane trees, small streams, and wooden bridges.
🧭 Short Description
These are two natural waterfalls hidden within a green ravine, offering a unique experience to those who make the journey.
The first waterfall is easily accessible on foot. To reach the second, you'll need to swim through a natural pool or walk carefully over slippery rocks (caution advised!).
The experience feels almost exotic: cascading waters into natural basins, echoing sounds among the trees, and a deep sense of disconnection from the "outside" world.
📜 History & Tradition
Although there are no written historical records, the waterfalls are considered a sacred natural spot by locals.
In the past, before the trail was built, only the boldest dared to approach.
The area is linked to local legends, such as “the river fairy” and “the hidden lake of the Transfiguration.”
